Anyone for staying in the EU?
1. Mass immigration from outside the EU through barely-controlled borders by economic migrants (yes, I know there are some genuine refugees amongst them, but most of them are fit and aggressive young men);
2. Eurozone mess leading to huge bailout payments to Greece, likely never to be repaid;
3. Major decisions by unelected commissioners whom no-one has ever heard of;
4. Expenses on a galactic scale (with no-one really checking what is genuine) by politicians and bureaucrats in Brussels and Strasbourg;
5. UK jobs up for grabs by EU workers whose costs of living back home allow them to accept low pay from employers, who love the extra profit.

I voted in the 70s to join the EEC, a trading group of 6 roughly equally-developed industrial countries. Since then the entire concept has changed with no further reference to the electorate.

And why does the EU need to change offices between Strasbourg and Brussels every few months? It costs billions in moving costs and expenses every few months.

Why? Oh yes because the French wanted a piece of the action as well as the Luxemburgers and Belgians...

I thijk it was a good idea at the start. Last year though, the EU spent 500 million quid promoting itself in the EU. What a grotesque beast it has become.

Dont forget the EU accounts have not neen signed off by auditors for over 20 years I believe.

The CAP is a disaster, as is the fishing policy.

What??

DON'T YOU IDIOTS REALISE THE EU IS THE ONLY REASON WE HAVEN'T HAD ANOTHER WAR IN EUROPE SINCE 1945?!

If we leave, we will be bankrupt within a week and PUTIN will have his tanks parked on College Green.

In, all day long. I'm not going to even bother justifying that position as if it is not obvious then you do not have the intellectually capacity to understand. Hence why you read the Daily Mail.

For the simple fact that the more separated and divided we are as people, the harder it will be to tackle the massive common problems that affect us all. I'm mainly thinking the environment, but also a host of other things. The EU is far from perfect, but it's the best thing we have.

1000 years of history has shown that England has always suffered when isolated from Europe. An England out of the EU would make it a parochial, irrelevant backwater of interest to and influence on absolutely nobody.

Spandex - exactly the sort of arguement that will result in an out result. We know better, so jog on politics.

As it happens I am in favour of a mutual trading block, not the Franco German feudal carve up it has become

It is very true that the Kremlin sees it's vital interest in preventing the spread of the open society values carried by the EU into Russia. It as also true that the nationalist right-wing populists I like to refer to as the Rabid Right are highly dependent on funding originating from Moscow, just as Europe's Loony Left was in the 1970s.

Fact is, the EU generally represents exactly the kind of progressive, secular force as the constitutionalist movements of the 19th century, and it is opposed by the very same reactionary nationalist/religious forces today.

That is not to say there are no highly reactionary and dysfunctional forces at play inside the EU - there really is plenty of good work to be done to improve it.

Oh, and by the way, the UK will vote to stay in.

Fucking about in or out of the EU will be like a kindergarten squabble once TTIP gets approved.

Best take that picture of your arse you've always meant to do now, before you're forced to kiss it goodbye.

Or be really British and just have a good fucking moan after the event. That'll make it alright.

The UK outside the EU is fucked. Even entertaining the idea is clearly post-colonial hubris.
